Joe Harris

Player Information

''I'd like to push for promotion'' said 1st team captain, Joe Harris.
For the first time in a number of years, Challow has seen 3 newly
appointed captains for their 3 respective teams in the Cherwell cricket
league for the 2021 season (disregarding the non-competitive nature of
the reduced 2020 season). Recently, the new 1st team captain Joe
Harris was interviewed on his aspirations for the new season for the
club under his captaincy.
Harris stated that he feels, this year, his team will be much more
competitive and will be 'spurred on' by the prospect of promotion back
into division 1. Last season, Challow 1st team finished 7th in the top tier
in last year's dead rubber season. Harris felt as though last year's
competition was tough playing amongst division 1 teams along with
those who they will be competing against in division 2 in 2021. Harris
also informed me that a few new players will have a role to play. In the
first 2 pre-season games this season already, 3 new faces seen in the
first team. Former player at Challow, Shaun Burningham, ex- Bicester
and North Oxford batsman, Nick Moorman and a new off spinner to add
more selection headaches, Phil Armstrong. When speaking about
upcoming season goals, he was confident that we can expect to see
Challow in a promotion race this season, with new players coming in to
support that charge. Harris went on to tell me that he thinks it is
important in their expectations for this season that all the players remain
supportive of each other after being a gelled team for so long, some of
which even playing together from youth cricket up until present day.
From a personal perspective, Harris stated that he would enjoy his role
as senior spin bowler in the 1st XI's attack this season has he has done
for a number of seasons now; less certain of his batting role however.
He stated that 'In an ideal world' he would bat in the middle order but
subject to availibility he would lead from the front at the top of the order,
but 'everyone knows their role' within the team.
